Power to Gas

Hydrogen is the perfect energy vector: it balances supply and demand of electricity and complements the intermittent electricity generated by solar or wind power.

Electrolysers can produce green hydrogen with the “power to gas” process when there is an excess of renewable electricity (or low spot prices). Green hydrogen can then either be stored or injected directly into the gas grid – both in a hydrogen grid or into natural gas pipelines.

Kuqa project with Sinopec

The total installed capacity of the electrolyzers is 260 MW, equivalent to 52 DQ1000 stacks. CJH got 24 of 52 stacks. All the deliveries will be finished before the end of October 2022 and the first hydrogen will be generated in October. Up to now, Sinopec Kuqa is the largest green hydrogen project. Annual green hydrogen generation capacity is 20,000 tons/year. This hydrogen will be sent to the refinery.

Baofeng project in Ningxia

It is a petro-chemical plant. Baofeng installed 200MW PV plant and installed 30 x 1000 Nm³/h electrolyzers in 2021. 22 out of the 30 electrolyzers were delivered by CJH. The whole plant could generate 240 Mio. Nm³ H² and 120 Mio. Nm³ o² per year. The off takers of the H² are Methyl Alcohol, Polyethylene and Polypropylene process. Baofeng had Grey H² and the new built electrolyzers generate green hydrogen to replace part of the Grey H².

Fluxys and Sibelga

John Cockerill is developing a project named “hydrogen to grid national living lab” (or “H2GridLab”) together with two other large companies active in natural gas transmission and distribution: Fluxys and Sibelga. This project aims to create a participatory laboratory were green hydrogen will be tested as an alternative to natural gas.

Cockerill Jingli Hydrogen

Cockerill Jingli Hydrogen has also supplied and successfully commissioned 2 x 5MW electrolysers to feed hydrogen to a methanation plant.
